In preparation of starting the new project i created digital collages using work i had generated over half-term. I focused on shape and colour for my idea generation, using light and bright colours for organic shapes. i used a bit of line as well to connect the shapes. one piece is a self portrait of my ideal self, adding a moustache and piercings, i overlaid it with colourful outlines of organic shapes leaving the negative space clear to see the self-portrait underneath.
for the digital collage we used Photoshop, i learnt how to layer, cut-out using lasso and quick selection tools, alter the vibrancy of the colours and intensify the contrast. the outcome was successful because the process enabled me to mirror my previous work whilst extending and improving upon it. the overlaid outcome really inspired me and provoked further thoughts about my next steps e.g using other materials and techniques to create other self-portraits abstracted by organic shapes.

using my digital collage as reference i generated 12 lino designs by focusing on certain aspects of the collage. i chose to use the organic shapes with eyes design but altered it slightly to have more variety of sizes of shapes. i printed at first on white paper but felt that the absence of colour didn't reflect my intent to focus on the use of colour, without colour the outcome felt incomplete. i then printed on blue paper to reintroduce colour to my work but felt that the dominance of one solid colour made the work feel oppressive. i then tried the technique of Chine Collé to add pops of colour, i found this to be the most effective way of adding colour to my work in a unique way without overwhelming the piece.

additional development.
